My Dear Elders, friends, brothers, sisters and my fellow Gambian. We have been blessed by God Almighty to witness yet the beginning of another solar calendar year, 2022. Humanity as a whole has been subjected to tremendous trials and hardships through disease, calamities and afflictions. To a shallow thicker, these may seem as a normal occurrence without any precursor. I beg to differ, because, the sheer amount of afflictions and peril the world is facing transcend normal day to day mandance occurrence. Therefore, as a people, we must in the beginning of the solar year 2022, reflect deeply on the trajectory of the world at large and particularly our nation. First, we must ask ourselves in regards to the rights we owe to each other and our Country. Second, we must traverse in our minds the future we envision for our families, neighbors and our country at Large. Third, do we believe in our heart of hearts that this administration currently governing our nation has the ability to usher in the new era and deliver us from the chaos we are currently in? If the answer is a resounding no, which I think it is, then we must start from this day 1st January 2022 to lay the foundations of the beginning of the new era in Gambian politics as well as social stability.
The current state of our nation can’t be sustained. Corruption is rampant, institutions are crumbling, health care is dwindling, the communication sector which was one of the best in Africa almost thirty years ago has decayed and is boardline in oblivion. Nutrition, farming, fishery and so on are handed over to the private sector like the Chinese who are not only exploiting our resources but doing it to the expense of the Gambian people. Our industries like cotton, groundnut, and rice which thirty years ago have sustained our masses in the rural areas are almost non-existent owing to the lack of support from our administrations both previous and current. Do we continue to settle for the status core? or are we ready to turn the page? If turning the page is the answer, I recommend to you all to come and join the movement of The Gambia Unity Party.
I am speaking on behalf of the Gambia Unity party and it’s members to all Gambian wishing them a happy and prosperous new year 2022 as well as a peaceful and productive transition period for the current regime. I wish and pray that God will grant this administration under President Barrow the wisdom to steer the ship of our Country forward, not stagnation, misstep and in the Wrong direction inshaAllah.
Happy New Year.
Lamin A Sanyang
Chairman Gambia Unity Party
