Yankuba Darboe, Commissioner General of The Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA) has disclosed that the revenue authority, in the just concluded 2021, collected the sum of D12.7 billion.
Speaking to press corps in his office, Essa Jallow said: “the government of The Gambia through the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs (MOFEA) tasked the Gambia Revenue Authority to collect slightly over D12.7Billion annual revenue target for 2021.”
“However, despite the numerous challenges affecting revenue collection due to the deadly coronavirus pandemic, the Gambia Revenue Authority GRA was able to collect slightly over D12.7 Million that means in percentage terms, GRA achieved 100% its annual Revenue Target for 2021,” he added.
According to Mr Essa Jallow, in 2020, the GRA was tasked by Government of the Gambia through the ministry of finance and Economic Affair to collect 10.1Billion and GRA eventually collected over D11Billion which he said was a very good performance.
He said GRA has been performing relatively well over the years due to collective commitment from all taxpayers and GRA staff and management while he commended both for the commitment.
He said the increase of voluntary tax compliance has really yielded dividends in GRA revenue performance over the years.
He commended GRA staff and management in particular for their hard work, team spirit and professionalism in ensuring that GRA do everything possible to achieve its annual revenue target.
He noted that GRA is planning to host a taxpayer’s award to return gratitude to
the most tax compliant companies, this with objective of motivating them to continue to respect the law of the land particularly the revenue laws which is the lifeline of the country.
