Sare Gubu residents sensitised on antenatal care services

Sare Gubu Students’ Association (SGSA), a community-based organisation has sensitised the residents of Sare Gubu on rights, freedom and duties of citizens as well as antenatal care services and the effects of delay access to antenatal care.

Alhagie Lori Bah, village heads commended all participants for attending the annual event. He described the forum as significant in enlightening the residents and satellite villages on above-mentioned topics.

Ousman Darboe, Senior Programme officer at the Department of Health and Education Promotion, Ministry of Health in his presentation said women should have a series of medical check-ups before being pregnant and visit health facilities frequently during pregnancy.

“If you are pregnant, you should just rush to health facilities. To ensure safe delivery; pregnant women should have a good balanced diet,” he noted.

Mr Darboe also urged husbands to always accompany their spouses to healthcare centres to ensure they know their wives’ health status.

Muhammed S. Bah, President for SGSA said “The origination aims to give back to the community. Each will use his or her expertise to enlighten the residents. One person cannot do it alone; therefore, we deemed it necessary to use the organisation to give back to our community.”

However, he called on participants to keenly listen to all resource persons for their own benefit. Adding that, this would immensely raise their understanding.

Presenting on rights, freedom and duties of Citizen Tijan B. Bah, law students at The University of The Gambia said: “Every person has the right to be educated and educate his or her children,”

“The Gambian Constitution mandated every person of age eighteen (18) and above with a stable mind to have the right to get voters cards and all relevant documents,” Bah told the participants.

Ousman D Bah, treasurer of SGSA advised Sare Gubu youth to acquire skills and work in the country. This, he said, would enable the youth to attain their goals in their own motherland.
