The Gambia Armed Forces has congratulated Lieutenant Colonel Musa Jammeh on his appointment by the Confederation of African Football as one of the 25 security and safety officers for the African Cup of Nation to be held in Cameroon later this week.
“Colonel Jammeh is an executive member of the Gambia Football Federation and FIFA Security Liaison Officer for the GFF. The veteran scorpion will be working with the local organizing committee in Cameroon for the security management of the matches during the tournament,” GAF said in a statement.
“Lieutenant Colonel Jammeh will be part of the hosts of African Football Authorities assigned to the continent’s biggest sporting events in Cameroon dubbed ‘Total energies Africa Cup of Nations’ in Cameroon. Colonel Jammeh’s appointment is the first of its kind for the Gambia to be accorded with such privilege on such an assignment, he will be posted to Baffousam in the western region of Cameroon,” the statement added.
“It could be recalled that Lt Col Jammeh was the security officer in the decider between Guinea and Mali for the African Cup of Nation qualifiers held in Conakry,” the statement reminded and added that Colonel Jammeh underwent series of trainings in Cairo Egypt conducted by Confederation of African Football and has also attended retreat in Cameroon held in 2022 to enhance his technical skills in the security and policing of international matches.
It also said as Gambia made its maiden appearance in the African Cup of Nations for the first time, his nomination couldn’t have come at a better time than this.
