The Gambia Ports Authority (GPA) on Saturday ended Falcons FC unbeaten run in The Gambia Football Federation (GFF) 1st Division League while Gamtel FC also defeated Hawks FC in the week-5 fixtures played over the weekend.
The Ferry Boys (GPA) imposed the Blue Army (Falcons FC’s) to their first loss of the season after defeating them 2-0 in a game played at the Ousman Saho football field in Old Yundum.
GPA scored both goals in the second period (53rd and 80th minutes) respectively following a goalless draw in the first period.
The Gambia Ports Authority (GPA) now collected three consecutive wins of the season after five matches, while newly promoted side (Falcons) now suffered their first loss after five matches in their maiden first division league season.
GPA now closed the gap between them and Falcons as they both share the same points (10) with Falcons dropping to 3rd position but still ahead on goal difference, while GPA jumped to 4th position.
Elsewhere, Gamtel FC also defeated Hawks FC 2-0 in the earlier game played at the Late Ousman Saho football field in Old Yundum on Friday.
The Telecommunication Boys (Gamtel FC) took the lead through an own-goal by Hawks FC’s defender in the 68 minute, while Muhammed Saine scored the second goal for Gamtel to make it a comfortable win in the 90+5 minute of regulation time.
This is the second win earned by Coach Ebou Jarra and his Gamtel side in five matches, while Hawks FC now conceded their second defeat of the season.
The victory earned Gamtel FC level on points (7) with Hawks FC and moved ahead on 6th position on goal-difference, while Hawks FC dropped to 7th position.
Both the Telecom Boys and The Reds collected two wins, two defeats and one draw in five games.
Meanwhile, The Gambia Football Federation (GFF) through the Competitive Deportment postponed the Sunday week-5 scheduled games between Brikama United and Steve Biko and Gambia Armed Forces (GAF) against Elite United until Thursday 13 January 2022 at 6pm and 8pm respectively.
