President Adama Barrow has sent his condolences to the family members of Gambians that lost their lives to the fire incident occurred in the Bronx apartment, New York while indicated that his administration is keenly following the developments through The Gambia Embassy in the United States, as he sent condolences to families of the victims.
At least 17 people including Gambians died in Sunday fire incident that left many others seriously injured.
In his condolence message, he said “it is with profound sadness that I learned the involvement of Gambians and people of Gambian descent, in the devastating fire incident in a Bronx, New York apartment building on Sunday. We are keenly following the developments through our Embassy in the United States. Meanwhile, I extend my condolences to the families of the deceased and wish a speedy recovery to the injured.”
Meanwhile, The Gambian ambassador to US, Dawda Fadera also said: “This is very unfortunate and I think I dare to say that the majority of the victims apparently have their roots from The Gambia. We are a very small country of about less than 2 million people and we are all related. Everybody knows everybody.
“So, our country is currently in a state of shock. Before I came here, I spoke to the President of the Republic of The Gambia, Mr Adama Barrow and he has asked me to extend his condolences to relatives of the families of the victims,” he added.
Also, Honorable Mai Ahmed Fatty, the leader of Gambia Moral Congress, also said in a statement that “I am saddened to express condolence on the tragic death of a number of Gambians who perished in a Bronx inferno, in New York, USA. I commiserate with the families, relatives and friends of the victims and with the entire Gambian community,” Mai Ahmed Fatty said.
“I pray fervently, that Allah, the Lord of the Universe, bestow His Mercy upon them all, admit them into Jannatul Firdaws, and console the families left behind,” he added.
“I want to commend the Gambian community in New York for their generous acts of prompt humanitarian intervention. This is a sad moment for our Nation, and for all of us to mourn this huge national loss, and to support the needy families in any way possible. The Gambian community in the USA is very resilient, and May Allah helps see us through this great tragedy,” Fatty prayed for the diseased.
