Newly promoted side Team Rhino has collected their first win of the season after defeating struggling Banjul United, while Real de Banjul suffered their first loss of the season after been defeated by Wallidan FC in their week-5 fixtures of the Gambia Football Federation (GFF) 1st Division League played at the Independence Stadium in Bakau on Monday.
Team Rhino tasted their first victory of the season after defeating Banjul United 2-0 in the earlier game played at the Independence Stadium.
The Wellingara-based team took the lead through an own-goal in the 10th minute of the game, before Buba Hydara doubled the lead in the 84th minute of the second half.
The victory became the first for Team Rhino FC after suffering two defeats and two draws, while Banjul United who started the league struggling now suffered their fourth defeats of the season with only one draw in five matches.
Team Rhino now moved out of the relegation zone and jumped to 10th position with 5 points, while Banjul United is still languishing at rock-bottom (16)-position on the table with just one point after five games.
Elsewhere, Real de Banjul suffered their first defeat of the season after a 2-1 loss to Wallidan FC in the late encounter played at the Independence Stadium in Bakau on Monday.
Abdoulie Manneh opened the scoring for Wallidan FC in the early 8th minute of the game. Mohamadou Demba leveled the scores for Real de Banjul in the 61 minute of the second half. Abdoulie Mankeh restored Wallidan FC lead with an acrobatic kick in the 76 minute of the game.
He (Mankeh) got himself sent off with a second yellow after pulling his shirt while celebrating his thunderous kick forgetting he was on a yellow.
The game which was termed as a Banjul-derby and clash of the Titans later turned in favour of the Blue boys.
Wallidan has now collected their third victory with two draws of the season, while Real de Banjul just suffered their first loss after three wins and one draw in five matches.
Blue boys, Wallidan FC now moved top of the league table with 11 points, while Real de Banjul dropped to fourth position with 10 points leveled with Waa Banjul, Falcons and Gambia Ports Authority (GPA).
Meanwhile, at the time of going to press yesterday, Tuesday, Samger FC played against Marimoo in the earlier kick off before Fortune FC battled it out with Waa Banjul in the late encounter played at the Independence Stadium in Bakau.
