Ebou Faye, 2nd vice president of The Gambia Football Federation (GFF) who also doubled as head of competition department at the Federation has said that The Gambia’s participation at the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) is the biggest achievement.
“This achievement is an honor and privilege and we have to thank everybody who contributed to this process since 1952 to date. This is a big achievement for a small country like ours,” he said during an interview in Cameroon.
He added that: “being here (in the Afcon) is an absolute and excellent joy. The process started since 1952 and I’m lucky to be part of the process as a former player, coach and now an administrator.”
“We have to thank everyone who has been involved in this great achievement for a small country like ours and we believe the whole nation will be proud of this great moment”, GFF 2nd VP added.
Mr Faye, a former national team player, now an executive member of The Gambia Football Federation (GFF) is hopeful of a positive performance by the team in their maiden Afcon despite not playing any test match during their training camp in Qatar.
“The team is very prepared and the spirit in the team’s camp is very good. This is a good opportunity for the players to sell themselves during the tournament and that will be a great advantage for us because the players are extra motivated to market themselves during the tournament,” Faye concluded.
