A High Court judge in Banjul yesterday adjourned the legal quagmire between the State and the embattled former State Guard Commander, General Saul Badjie and two others.
Justice Sainabou Jawara-Alami made the pronouncement yesterday following a heated argument between the defence lawyer representing the accused persons and the prosecuting officer representing the State; who earlier applied for the suspects to be detained for ninety days to enable the State to put its house in order for prosecution.
No charges were pressed against them as of yesterday when they appeared before the court for the first time, prompting their attorney, Sheriff Kumba Jobe to raise an objection for them to enter the accused box without any proper charges before the court.
The State counsel, Patrick Gomez however applied for the suspects to be detained for ninety days when they are expected to put their house in order for prosecution.
After a heated argument between the defence and the State prosecutor, the presiding judge, Justice Sainabou Jawara-Alami deferred the matter to January 24th for ruling.
General Saul Badjie, Major Landing Tamba and WO2 Musa Badjie were arrested and detained at the State Central Prison at Mile II last week barely three weeks after their returned from exile in Equatorial Guinea where they have been living for almost five years with the former President Yahya Jammeh since January 2017.
It is not yet clear the actual offences they are charged with but earlier reports revealed that the top former general of Dictator Yahya Jammeh and his co-defendants are accused of murder and other criminal offences.
General Badjie who is described by many as “mad-trigger-cop has been adversely mentioned at both Janneh Commission and the Truth Commission in which he has been involved in so many financial dealings and other crimes including murder and torture during the former regime of Yahya Jammeh, a dictator who ruled The Gambia for twenty-two years with an iron hand.
