IEC announces date for National Assembly Elections for Constituencies

The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) informed the general public that the National Assembly elections for all constituencies in The Gambia will take place, Saturday, 9th April, 2022.

According to a released press release from the Election House yesterday which read that the “public is hereby informed that the IEC, in view of section 89 of the constitution and Section 42 of the Elections Act will conduct nomination of candidates for the said elections from 5th to 13th March, 2022 between the hours of 8 0’clock in the forenoon and 4 0’clock in the afternoon at the respective Regional Offices in Banjul, Kanifing, Brikama, Kerewan, Mansakonko, Janjangbureh and Basse.”

The press release states that the nomination papers can be collected from the said Regional Officers from 4th February, 2022.

“In exercise of the powers given in Section 85 of the Election Act, the IEC wishes to announce that the campaign period for the said elections shall start from 17th March, 2022 and end on 7th April, 2022,” the statement explained.

In addition, the public also notified under section 5 (2) of the Elections Act that the appointed returning Officers for the elections are as follows: Sulayman Joof – Banjul Administrative Area; Joseph Colley – Kanifing Administrative Area; Robert Anthony Secka – Brikama Administrative Area; Essa Baldeh – Kerewan Administrative Area; Lamin J Jadama – Mansakonko Administrative Area; Ahmadou Taal – Janjangbureh Administrative Area and Lamin Cham – Basse Administrative Area.
