Plaintiff narrates ordeal in felony case

Basiru Gaye, a plaintiff yesterday testified in the ongoing felony case involved Muhammed Trawally, at the Kanifing Magistrate Court presided over by Magistrate Tamara Chaw.

Testifying before the court, Basiru Gaye told the court that he went to his shop in the morning and found his shop was broken and some of his welding materials were missing. And since then he has not been working because he has no working tools to use.

He said one of his brothers by the name Saidou told him that he has some welding equipment for sale if he (Basiru) has interest to buy the material; he said he told Saidou that he has interest to buy the welding material but has no money on him at the moment.

“I later saw a small welding machine in Basiru’s shop and I told him that I want him to sell it to me which he agreed and we agreed on a price which is D6,500,” and he said he paid D2,500 to Saidou and later paid the balance on the following day.

He said two to three weeks later Saidou’s wife called him on telephone saying that the machine his husband sold to him is a stolen property and he has to return it to her because Saidou is sick and has gone for treatment in Senegal.

He said on Sunday he asked his apprentice to take the welding machine to Saidou’s wife, he said which the apprentice does and that the welding machine was given to Saidou’s wife while he doesn’t have his money back.

Meanwhile, his particular of offence states that Muhammed Trawally did on the 6th November 2021 at Bakoteh broke into the shop of Yusupha Jabang with intent to commit felony. Count two of his particulars of offense states that he (Muhammed Trawally) stole two welding machines valued at D 18,000 and one grinding machine valued at D5000 the total sum of twenty-three thousand dalasis being the properties of Yusupha Trawally.

The case was adjourned to the 7th February 2022 at 10: am. Inspector Sambou represented IGP.
