By Arfang M.S. Camara

Boy Nyang of Club Serekunda Mbolo on Sunday 16th January 2022, defeated Adidas of Club Bakau Gom Sa Bopa to claim the wrestling flag named after the president of The Gambia Wrestling Association, Serign Modou Faye (Cham) in an event organized by VIP Promotions at the Serekunda West Mini Stadium.

Both wrestlers came into the bout on the back of defeats which slowed proceedings after the referee’s whistled. However, the combat did not disappoint as both wrestlers traded blows, grabbing each other before heading for the ground while watching fans cheered.

Following the aforementioned action both wrestlers ran to the referee claiming victory and offering their hands to be raised. The central referee after consultations with his assistants declared Boy Nyang the winner by raising his hand.

However speaking to Paradise FM’s famous Monday Special program, Manager of Club Bakau Gom Sa Bopa Minyan Sarr revealed that they were disappointed with the decision of the referee and had logged an appeal to The Gambia Wrestling Association seeking for the referee’s verdict to be overturned.

Meanwhile, it remains to be seen what decision the committee will come up with after reviewing the video evidence.
