Vendors at the busy Serrekunda Sandinka market have called for an extension of the market as they complained that it’s too small to accommodate them with their businesses and also with big Lorries offloading goods in the market.
Babucarr Ceesay, a vendor said the Sendika is very tight and the population of people selling in the market is growing more than the space which has made it very difficult for them to sell. He added that, trucks that normally park at Sandika are disturbing them because they don’t have chances to sell comfortably.”
“Because of the size of the market place, we have no choice than to sell on the main way and this is also problem because if we do so the police will drive us to move despite paying tax every day, so this is very challenging to us,” he added.
“We have been facing such challenges since the era of Yaya Jammeh, the former president but no one come to our aid,” but Ceesay added that the current government should help them and look for a comfortable place and give it to them,” he said.
Nedy Njie also a vendor said they have no choice than to sell in such a condition, adding the Sandika is very tight because of this they are finding it hard to do their work properly she explained.
“There are many people selling under this hot because they don’t have a place to sit and sell their goods it is painful because the hotness of sun can make you sick. The trucks always park in front of our shops from morning to afternoon even when they don’t bring any goods for us.” she said.
A man who wants to remain anonymous said in order to make things easy for them, government should find a special place for the trucks to park and bring down to offload their goods because sandika is too small for all these trucks.
