The Management of The Voice are mourning their colleague Maimuna Sey-Jawo, a reporter with newspaper, who died on Saturday after losing battle to a brief illness.
Ms Sey-Jawo’s sudden death has shocked the Gambia media fraternity, as journalists, families and ordinary Gambians gathered to pay last respect to her and as well sympathise with the bereaved family, and described her as a calm and hardworking woman who had respect for everyone.
She was laid to rest at her husband’s home in Sare Samba Simali village in Central River Region yesterday, Sunday at 2pm.
The management of The Voice Newspaper, staff and freelancers prayed for her soul to rest in peace. She joined the paper editorial team in 2021 as general reporter.
Musa S. Sheriff, Managing Director of The Voice described Ms Sey-Jawo as a respectful and hardworking journalist, who had dedication and passion for journalism. “In every edition of the newspaper, Maimuna’s must have a story mostly in front page as she covered institutes like Gambia Revenue Authority, Social Security and Housing Financial Corporation, Agriculture among others for the newspaper. May Almighty Allah forgive her shortcomings and grant her the highest place of Aljanatul Fridawsi.”
Mr Momodou Jawo her husband expressed a deep sorrow over the death of his wife and said: “This one has hit me so much. I don’t want to write anything, because for me it’s still not true. This was not what we promised each other.
“Maimuna you can’t go so soon and leave me here. This is a woman who loved me unconditionally. Even if I wrong her knowingly or unknowingly, she will still apologize and say to me “Darling I don’t want you to be angry”. Just can’t continue my tribute to you. May Almighty Allah forgive your shortcomings and grant you the highest place of Aljanatul Fridawsi,” he said with heavy and disturbed heart.
Alieu Ceesay, also a journalist with QTV said: “The media is mourning another colleague, the third in less than a week. Maimuna Sey-Jawo, a journalist, is the wife of another journalist Momodou Jawo of The Point Newspaper.
“She was with us during the funerals of both Pamodou Faal and Musa Ndow last Monday and Tuesday. Just like everyone, she was shocked at the death of her colleagues, not knowing she would follow in a couple of days. Death is inevitable and may Allah grant us a good ending. Maimuna was a good person.”
