A High Court judge in Banjul yesterday adjourned the delinquent trial between the State and the embattled former State Guard Commander, General Saul Badjie and two others to another date again for ruling.
Justice Sainabou Jawara-Alami said she will deliver her ruling on whether the suspects, Saul Badjie and his co suspects, Major Landing Tamba and WO2 Musa Badjie should be detained for ninety days or not following a formal heated debate between the State and the defence lawyer representing the suspects.
Badjie and others appeared before the court last week without any formal charges and the State applied for their detention for ninety days to enable them to prepare charges for prosecution which was objected by the defence lawyer.
The suspects were arrested and detained at the State Central Prison at Mile II few weeks after their return from exile in Equatorial Guinea where they lived for almost five years with the former president Yahya Jammeh after the 2016 presidential election in which he was defeated by the current president Adama Barrow.
It is not yet clear what delinquency offences they are charged with but earlier reports revealed that the top former general of exiled former dictator Jammeh and his co-defendants are accused of murder and other delinquency offences.
The High Court however after hearing formal application by both parties yesterday finally adjourned the matter to February 4th for ruling.
