Waa Banjul and Wallidan FC moved top of the table standings while Banjul United recorded their first win in the week-6 fixtures of The Gambia Football Federation (GFF) 1st Division League played at the Independence Stadium in Bakau over the weekend.
Waa Banjul moved top of the league after defeating Hawks FC 3-1 in the earlier game played at the Late Ousman Saho football field in Old Yundum on Saturday.
Omar Sonko opened the scoring for Waa Banjul in the 31st minute of the first half. Momodou Salieu Jallow and Ali Jatta extended Waa Banjul’s lead in the 42nd and 83rd minutes respectively, while Hawks FC scored their only consolation goal in the 86th minute.
The Banjul-based team, who now collected their fourth win of the league, now moved top of the standings on goal-difference with 14 points, leveled with Wallidan.
Hawks FC who also conceded to third defeats of the league sits 10 position with 7 points leveled with Gamtel, Brikama United and Gambia Armed Forces (GAF) (with two latter sides having game-in-hand).
Wallidan FC also defeated Gamtel FC 2-0 in the late encounter played at the Independence Stadium in Bakau on Sunday.
Kebba Sambou gave Wallidan FC the lead in the 25th minute of the first half, before Ablie Manneh doubled their lead in the 94th minute of the second half, leaving the Telecommunication Boys disappointed.
Wallidan, who seems to pick up from their last season ending of the league point after collecting four wins, two draws and zero defeats, while Gamtel FC conceded their third defeats of the season with two wins and one draw.
Wallidan moved to 2nd position with 14 points, leveled with Waa Banjul, while Gamtel FC occupied 9th position with 7 points leveled with Hawks FC and Gambia Armed Forces (GAF) and Brikama United (with two latter sides playing less games).
Elsewhere, Banjul United recorded their first victory of the season after defeating Marimoo 2-0 in the earlier game played at the Independence Stadium in Bakau on Sunday.
The struggling Banjul-based team scored their goals in the 15 and 25 minutes of the first half, leaving the Manjai-based team and their fans unhappy at the end of the final result.
Banjul United who collected their first win of the league, conceded four defeats and one draw, while Marimoo who is yet to collect any win also conceded three defeats and three draws.
Marimoo dropped to 14th position with 3 points, leveling with Elite United, while Banjul United moved out of the relegation to 13th position with 4 points after six matches.
Newly promoted side Falcons FC has bounced back from their previous setback to defeat the defending champions, Fortune FC 2-1 in the second game played at the Independence Stadium in Bakau on Sunday.
The defending champions took the lead in the early four minutes of the game before the Blue Army responded with two quick goals from Edward Ndecky and Pa Abdou Cham in the 57th and 87th minutes to collect the maximum points.
The Abuko-based team Falcons FC collected their four wins in their debut season at the topflight, while Fortune FC conceded to their second defeats after six games.
The win moved Falcons FC 4th position with 13 points, leveling with Real de Banjul, while Fortune FC dropped to 6th position with 8 points after six matches.
Meanwhile, Brikama United will take on Gambia Armed Forces (GAF) earlier today, on Tuesday, at the Independence Stadium at 7pm; while Gambia Ports Authority (GPA) will battle it out with Steve Biko in the late encounter at the Stadium at 9pm.
