The Gambia Football Federation on Tuesday 25th January 2022 presented a cheque amounting to One Hundred Thousand Dalasis (D100, 000) to Gambian international female Scorpion player Isatou Jallow intended for costs of her treatment.
Speaking during the brief ceremony held at the GFF Secretariat in Kanifing, 3rd Vice President Lt General Lang Tomboug Tamba said the GFF received news of Isatou’s injury with sadness.
“We received news of her injury with sadness even though it’s part of football. We were told she can only get the required treatment in Senegal and so we decided to assist her financially to facilitate her treatment”. Tamba noted that the sacrifice endured by the players cannot be paid in return and thus the GFF also has a duty to protect and help them in anyway possible”.
GFF 1st Vice President who is also acting in the capacity of President Mr Bakary K Jammeh also expressed his regrets about Isatou’s condition adding that the girl is young and has a long career ahead. “The GFF is here to support all footballers both Male and Female. Isatou is a young player with a great career ahead. We are aware of the support she received from other players because football is one family and so the GFF also decided to come in because we know she’s in need of any help she can get because while in Senegal she will need food and accommodations,” Mr Jammeh noted.
On her part Isatou Jallow expressed gratitude to the Federation and noted that the money will go a long way in assisting in her recovery. “I have nothing much to say but I am very much delighted and this will really help. I was supposed to travel this month but because of my injury I couldn’t but hopefully in July or August I will be returning to my team. All I have to say is to thank the GFF and pray for all of you”.
The ceremony was attended by family members and GFF Acting General Secretary Mr Kemo Ceesay.
