Alieu Momarr Njai, the chairman of the Independent Electoral Commission has described the December presidential election as most free, fair and transparent elections ever conducted in the country.
Mr Naji was speaking at a stakeholder meeting on the upcoming National Assembly elections held at the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara Conference Centre, Bijilo.
“The election observers from international countries also confirmed this year’s election as fair,” while he thanked all the stakeholders for their support and also expect the same in the National Assembly election slated for 9th April 2022. He disclosed that IEC team will be updated on regard to the plan of action, so therefore, “as far as we are concern this election is the most credible and transparent in the world. We make sure that all agents from different political parties are present from starting to the end and no complain was mentioned,” he stated.
“However, whatever people are saying will not deviate us from the current procedure of the IEC, as we all know during the last election the president was taken to court and as IEC is concerned, we have fulfilled our mandate as what to do,” he added.
Sambujan Njie, chief electoral officer also said they cannot go into National Assembly elections without closing the presidential elections. So, it has been officially closed to further maintain their engagement with stakeholders to you along the way so that it will be successful at the previous election.
“We have realized that most of the stakeholders don’t know what is happening even though they want to participate and it would have very helpful, meetings will be conducted with parties on monthly basis with civil societies and media practitioners. It helps you to ask relevant questions pertaining to the election activities,” he explained.
“Gazette of election is the public notice to make it formal and illegal to conduct the election in this Gazette we have identified 7 returning officers because this is National Assembly elections which is based on constituencies and they are located in the administrative area,” he added.
