4 arrested with drugs, firearms

The Drug Law Enforcement Agency, The Gambia (DLEAG) officers have disclosed the arrest of four men with firearms and suspected drugs, but one of suspect absconded and aman-hunt has been launched for the absconder.

“The Central River Region, Bansang field office put under custody one Hamadi Kandeh 58-year-old Gambian national, who was apprehended with a quantity of one (1) big bundle, two (2) medium bundles, seventeen (17) parcels and some quantities of suspected Cannabis sativa as well as a firearm at Bansang Allatentu. The 58-year-old, was clutched on the 28th January 2022 with the suspected drugs arrested together with a firearm found with him during his arrest, he was subsequently charged for possession of illicit drugs contrary to section 35 and the use of firearm contrary to section 47, drug control act (DCA) 2003 revised laws of the Gambia,” the Agency said.

“In similar but separate development Faye Ceesay, 57 years old Gambian national and a civil servant by occupation was also nabbed on the 28th January 2022 around 20:00 hours onwards with three (3) parcels and twenty-four (24) wraps of suspected cannabis t Bansang Allatentu Zaidah Sanneh, an adult male student was also arrested on the same day around 21:00 hours GMT with four (4) wraps and a smoking joint of cannabis sativa at Bansang Town. The duo was all taken into custody and charged for possession of prohibited drugs,” the agency added.

“The drug scouts in Talinding field station apprehended a 17-year-old Gambian and a resident of Wellingara for possession of illicit drug, the young boy was arrested with one parcel and thirty-six (36) wraps of suspected cannabis,” it continued, adding “He was handed over to the agency`s Gender, Children and human Right unit for further processing”.

Meanwhile, the agency said its operatives recovered two (2) bundles of suspected cannabis sativa wrapped with brown papers and concealed in a used flower bag in Bijilo on the 26th January 2022, and the suspect I currently at large as operative further probe into the matter.
