Goodwill Ambassador for Sports, Tijan Jaiteh on Thursday 27th January 2022 presented high quality track suits to members of the cabinet including president Adama Barrow.
The ceremony that was held at State House in Banjul was graced and witnessed by the Gambian leader and his cabinet ministers.
Each of the cabinet ministers were presented with a scan trade-labeled tracksuit worth over $100 each.
The Gambian leader, Adama Barrow was presented eight original full sets of football jerseys and eleven balls worth over D250, 000.
The event also witnessed by both President Barrow and Vice-president Dr. Isatou Touray also presented with the famous Norway Cup ball to signal the return of the country to the famous youth tournament.
President Barrow also appended his signature to the famous Norway Cup ball.
Meanwhile, The Norway Cup is an international youth football tournament in Oslo, Norway.
It has been held annually since 1972, with the exception of 1976 (due to a conflicting arrangement) and 2020 (due to the COVID-19 Pandemic).
It’s the world’s largest football tournament and sees a typical 1400 to 1700 participating teams per year. In 2016 Norway Cup hit an all-time record with 2199 teams, of which 450 teams played the new 3v3 tournament for 6-10 year olds.
Since his appointment as Goodwill Ambassador for Sports, Tijan Jaiteh has contributed immensely to the development of sports in the country.
In late last year, Ambassador Jaiteh helped the women’s national volleyball team to attend a training camp in Dubai. In early 2021, he also facilitated the arrival of two Italian volleyball coaches to help develop talents in the country’s volleyball sports.
Mr. Jaiteh was also at the forefront in arranging the meeting between the Vice President Dr. Isatou Touray and some of the national team players.
Speaking to the Press after the event, Ambassador Tijan Jaiteh said that his aim is to do his best to move the country’s sports to the next level.
“All I want is to do my best to help the country move to the next level when it comes to sports,” he said.
According to him, the track suits presented to cabinet ministers including the Gambian leader are to motivate the cabinet members to be more sportive for a better country.
