Kandeh condemns arrest of 3 Gambians

Honorable Mamma Kandeh, the leader of Gambia Democratic Congress has condemned the arrest of three Gambians by Senegalese soldiers.

The party’s reaction came after the held Gambians were released after deadly shootout between Senegalese soldiers and MFDC rebels.

Meanwhile, GDC called on Gambians to stand against dragging the country into bloody and deadly journey over the Senegal-Cassamance affair.

“As clearly stated in our former Press Release Senegalese soldiers attached to the ECOMIG team have no mandate/operational right according to the ECOWAS Protocol on ECOMIG to get involved in the implementation of Gambian domestic laws. The Gambia is a sovereign nation and its sovereignty is an absolute and indispensable right that must be observed and respected by every individual, nation or society.

“GDC is also calling on all Gambians to resist the dragging of our nation into the horrendous and bloody consequences of the Senegal-Cassamance imbroglio. Moreover, no foreign institution or government has the right to protect our forests on our behalf and in place of our local law enforcement agencies. We have professional men and women in our national security forces!” Mamma Kandeh, leader of Gambia Democratic Congress said.

“It is also noteworthy that, The Gambia has no need for involvement in the Senegal- Cassamance question and should not be dragged into the matter. Thus, every Gambian should stand up and stop our leaders from dragging our nation into the bloody and deadly journey entailed in involving our nation in the Senegal-Cassamance affair. It is a move that will spell doom and disaster for everyone in The Gambia if we allow our leaders to lure our nation into it,” he added.

“No Gambian should bear the brunt of the trouble between Senegal and Cassamance, and the GDC alongside every Gambian is calling on our leaders to stop any move aimed at aiding and abetting Senegal’s disposition towards the Cassamance separatists’ movement,” Mr Kandeh added.
