School for Enrolled Nurses and Midwives in Bansang shutdown

By Nyima Sillah

The School for Enrolled Nurses and Midwives in Bansang has been reportedly closed over failure of food impress supposed to provide by Ministry of Health for the past three quarters for students and lecturers.

According to a signed letter by Mr Sherrifo Jawla, principal of the school which read “this is to inform the general student body and staff that the school will be closing effective today (Friday) 4th February 2022 until further notice.”

It continued in the letter that “this unexpected closure is as a result of failure of food impress being paid by Ministry of Health for the past three quarters. Therefore, all students are free to travel to their respective homes starting tomorrow 5th of February, 2022. The date of resumption will be communicated through respective class tutors and presidents.”

Meanwhile, an anonymous source at the school said: “Our school has been shutdown today and all of us have been asked to go home. The principal said the government has not been supporting the school as they promised to. Meaning they ignored the school completely for the past 7 months.”

“The principal from his pocket has been feeding all the students and the principal said he wrote to the Ministry of Health who are in charge but nothing has been done and he can’t continue funding students feeding from his pocket so he decided to close the school,” the source added.

As per latest information from another source before press stated that “They sent part of the impress and said from here against Wednesday they will be sending in the impress and also fill the store where foodstuffs are kept. Also, the deputy governor of the region was around yesterday (Saturday) and they said they will come back on Tuesday”

“Everything is calm for now, we are waiting from here against Wednesday to see if they are going to actually fulfil what they said or this is just a means of shutting them up. This is not the first time something like this is happening, the principal will all of a sudden tell students to stay home due to the same reason. But this time they just closed the school in the middle of our final exams and I was desperate because my course lasts for 2yrs and we have been in the school system since 2018 yet we don’t finish our course,” the source added.
