Marong to ensure that bad media laws repeal

By Adama Makasuba

Ousman A Marong, who intends to run in upcoming April National Assembly elections for Lower Niumi Constituency, has promised that he will ensure thatbad media laws are repealed.

He also promised to ensure the media is given subvention by the government as done by other West African nations.

“Yeah, issue of press freedom is definitely core in me,so I will make sure that I fight tooth and nail to make sure that all these draconian laws in our laws bookare out,” he said.

“And other things that interest me most is that I will make sure there is subvention for the media. In Senegal it’s happening there, in Nigeria it’s happening there and in Ghana it’s happening there, why not in The Gambia. The media should have its own subvention from the government,” he argued.

“Just look at the Essau District Hospital, it is currently the main referral hospital in North Bank Region (NBR) apart from Farafenni, and is currently without water. Patients’ families and the mothers of the newly born babies normally go to the nearby villages in search of water. I want to put an end to this,” Marong added.

“I joined politics because I want to change the livelihood of my people. I want them to live like the people of Kombos are living and those settling around the Senegambia areas.  “I want to bring that rapid development to my end. My people cannot continue to live in a situation where electricity is compared to a jumping light.

“Just look at the Banjul/Barra ferry crossing points. These two points have been a nightmare and headache to my people and I want to be the first ever youngest MP to change the narrative,” he said.
