The Gambia has moved twenty-five places up in the latest FIFA World Coco Cola Rankings released by football’s world governing body, yesterday, Thursday.
The country was ranked 150 for the month of December 2021 with total points of 1049.74.
The Gambia now sit 125th position in the latest rankings with total points of 1135.18, moving ahead of Togo, Angola, Liberia amongst other nations.
The latest improvement is a direct result of the outcome of the Scorpions performances in their maiden Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
Following Gambia’s qualification to the Afcon tournament for the first time, the Scorpions collected 10 points in five matches in the tournament in Cameroon.
The Gambia went unbeaten in three of their group stage matches, collecting 7 points, followed by another win against Guinea Conakry in the round of 16 before eventually being eliminated by host, Cameroon in the quarterfinals.
The performance also earned The Gambia a sixth place finish in the Africa Cup of Nations rankings released by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) earlier this week.
Meanwhile, The Gambia also moved to 35th position in the latest African rankings released by the Confederation of African Football (CAF). The Gambia was ranked 46th position in Africa with total points of 1049.74 in December 2021.
In the latest rankings, Senegal maintained their lead at the top in Africa after winning the Africa Cup of Nations with a total of 1561.68 points.
