Six suspected drug traffickers including a Gambian and five Senegalese have been arrested with hundred bundles of cannabis in West Coast and North Bank Regions.
Drug Law Enforcement Agency said their “operatives seized a cumulative total of five hundred and forty-six (546) big bundles of suspected cannabis from suspected drug traffickers in the West Coast and North Bank Regions Respectively.”
“Five hundred and six (506) big bundles weighing four hundred and eighty-seven (487) kilograms, fifty grams was seized in the West Coast and a total of forty (40) big bundles was seized in the North Bank Region. Five of the suspects are Senegalese National and one is a Gambian. The estimated street value of the seized suspected prohibited drug is one million nine hundred and eleven thousand Dalasis (D1,911,000),” the agency said.
The agency stated that all four of the suspects involved in the cases in the West Coast Region are Senegalese residing in Majejam in the Southern Senegalese region of Casamance, adding “one of them was taken into custody while three others are currently at large.”
The said incident happened on the 8th February 2022 around 21:25 hours GMT onwards at the outskirts of Jakoi Paima from Cassamance heading to the river crossing point,” the agency
“On the 10th February 2022 two suspects were taken into custody in the North Bank Region for possession of suspected cannabis sativa. One of the suspects is a Senegalese and the other is a Gambian. In the West Coast Region, 18 years old, Amadou Tamba who is presently in custody was apprehended with one hundred and six (106) big bundles of suspected cannabis sativa. Ebrima Nyassi currently at large was with one hundred and thirty bundles (130), Abdou Tamba also currently at large was with one hundred and twelve (112) big bundles and Lamin Badgie currently at large as well was with one hundred and fifty-eight (158) big bundles of suspected cannabis sativa. The means of conveyance for all four of them were motorcycles. Two of the Motorbikes are without registration number plates while the registration number for the two are MC WCR 3242 A and WCR 5278 A,” DLEAG explained.
“Some DLEAG operatives sustained injury during the said operation. A manhunt has been launched to trace and bring to book the other three suspects currently at large. In the North Bank Region, Omar Jallow, a Senegalese and a resident of Kerr Marleh was apprehended with twenty-three (23) big bundles of suspected cannabis sativa at Noo – Kunda on the 10 February 2022 around 18:30 GMT onwards. The officers also discovered sixteen (16) big bundles of suspected cannabis sativa during the said operation and have launched an investigation to unravel the facts surrounding the said matter.”
