Fishermen Association of the Balingho village Upper Badibou has been blessed as two fishing boats, nets, cooler boxes, fishing trays and vegetable garden were donated to them.
The items were donated to them by the Njawara Agricultural Training Centre United Purpose (UP) through EU funded Global Climate Change Alliance GCCA+ dubbed Community Led Initiative for Sustainable Environment and Marine Resource Management (CISEARM) support.
Mama MK Manneh, Executive Director of Njawara Agricultural Training Centre highlighted the importance of supporting the fishing community with fishing boats and other essential materials to boost up youths participation in fishing and contribute to mitigate effect of climate change and enhance resilience building.
He said their partnership with United Purpose an International NGO aimed to effectively respond to the development needs and the support includes provision of 1ha vegetable garden and tricycle to facilitate transportation of fish and other agricultural products to the market.
Added that the support would enhance resilience building while and project is creating awareness in schools at Njawara Basic Cycle and Kinteh Kunda Janneh Ya Lower Basic School on Climate Change and resilience building among school children.
He thanked Department of Fisheries for their technical advice on specification of machines and materials to ensure quality are not compromise.
Musa Kanteh, Deputy Governor NBR hailed Njawara Agricultural Training Centre for their support to youths development and empowerment, noting that the boats and accessories would revive fishing activity at different levels. He assured them of Governor’s Office fullest support to implementation of development projects gear towards changing lives and livelihood.
Ma Sanneh Saine President of Fishing Association and Yahya Jammeh, alkalo of Balingho both described the support as historic, and would strengthen fishing activity and make available of fish throughout.
Amat Gaye a representative of chief of Upper Badibou, Binta Cham lady president among others commended the sponsor and Njawara Agriculutrual Training Centre for the support.
