After a successful completion of debate stages on Youth of the Month/Year Awards, the nominees is set to embark on a regional familiarization tour for the competition, tour scheduled date is 19th to 20th March to three regions.
And it is part of the final competition which will take place on 26th of March.
Meanwhile the Balance Crew oriented three nominees to kick start the familiarization regional tour.
The orientation which was held on Friday at the President International Award Scheme in Bakau brought together nominees namely: Momodou Janneh, Fatima Muloshi and Alhassan Drammeh and village heads from the three regions, Sukuta, Yundum and Sanyang.
Speaking to the nominees and village heads, Baba Ceesay, Chief Executive Officer of the Balance Crew said: The competition has over the year generated lots of interest and participation of youths since the last award in 2017.
He noted that this year’s competition featured 6 shortlisted nominees, but later one drop due to reasons beyond her control. Adding that followed a first ever ‘youth development’ debate, held at GRTS premises. 3 made it to the rounds of the debate and 2 were drop by our team of judges.
According to Ceesay the programme organizers will travel to the specific regions beforehand to inform the ‘Alkalos’ and ‘Sefos’ of their impending arrival. Also, they will spend time in every region to brief the region about the program and discuss with them on issues that are relevant to the development of their respective region.
“The nominees will do their survey and come up with feasible projects on how these three villages can attain a sustainable development. Each of the nominees, with the help of their technical team will write a project, solutions that would be presented on the next day to the village heads,” he explained.
Mr Ceesay went on that at the end of the competition, the winner for youth of the Month/Year will be awarded D50,000. Also, D30,000 will be given to the village of the Village of the Month/Year to start village project. Adding the program brings all the village issues into government attention and this year government contributed in sponsoring the entire program.
The Balance Crew is an organization of youth with a common vision of educating, informing and promoting the ideas of young Gambians. The Organization seeks to generate the interest of young people so that they can contribute their quota to the socio-economic development of The Gambia with the motto “Learn, think and create.”
