Honorable Mai Ahmed Fatty, leader of Gambia Moral Congress, has admonished people to live harmoniously together despite their differences on ideologies
“It has been very traumatic for many Gambian families both at home and in the Diaspora. Many “untimely” deaths were reported over a short period of time of prominent persons, both male and female, and even many recent deaths of not so prominent persons as well. Death is undeniably an inevitable phenomenon. We will all die, without doubt, someday. It is important to remember that death does not announce itself. It strikes when least expected. It could be anyone’s turn next. Who knows?” he said.
“Therefore, let us be extremely careful in our interpersonal relationships. Wealth, position, power or other worldly pursuits should not adversely impact our attitude towards each other. Consolidate community and family ties, not break them. Help others when you can, do not destroy them. Speak the truth with responsibility, and not intentionally hurt others with your conduct, tongue or pen. If you make mistakes, admit and make amends. Often pride, ego or arrogance distort our outlook and cloud our thoughts; these negative vices condition us to act in ways out of character. They are enemies unto ourselves. Forgiveness is a superior act of piety that raises one in rank of honour,” he added.
“I am addressing myself first, reminding myself and admonishing myself first. Let us not rush to judge each other, no one is perfect. We all make mistakes. We will not all agree on things all of the time because that is how the human being was created. That’s ok as long as we do not allow our differences to ruin our personal relationships. Let’s respect our differences, while working on them. Let’s make our country a better place for all. This is a reminder for me and all those who care. May Allah forgive us all, and bless our country,” he preached.
