Honorable Momodou Sabally, who intends to run for April National Assembly elections under United Democratic Party for Busumbala, has pledged his commitment to work for needs of Gambians and fight rampant corruption derailing the development of the country.
Speaking to wake up Gambia yesterday, the former secretary general and head of civil servant said: “I will ensure I work with National Assembly members brought in by other political parties to ensure the needs of the Gambians are satisfied especially the farmers who will be empowered to see that they benefit from the taxes they are paying to the government [and] to make sure we will provide good schools and hospitals for them and eradicate corruption in the country which has really torment the country’s development.”
“I will ensure I work with National Assembly members brought in by other political parties to ensure the needs of the Gambians are satisfied especially the farmers who will be empowered to see that they benefit from the taxes they are paying to the government.”
Meanwhile, he also said: “we would not sit here and allow some people to advocate for LGBT because we are in a religious country. And we will not also allow some people to stand in the National Assembly and say worshiping places should be dismantled in workplaces, we will make sure those things don’t happen.
“And those bad ideas are about to get into the National Assembly, therefore, we should have vibrant and committed young men and women who will stand to ensure good laws are enacted in the country. We will make sure people needs are supported in the National Assembly.”
“There are lots of things happening now in the country which are being dictated by other countries and that should not happen in this country. We have seen what happened in Foni which shouldn’t have happened. The most important is the budget and I was once the National Budget Director and is approve in the National Assembly and the money in the budget is the tax we pay and the tax should benefit the Gambians who pay it.
“But what is happening in the country now is that they will collect the money from people and few people used it because the assmbly where it is approve are doing good but they need to speed up efforts for the development of the poor Gambians,” he said.
