Two minors who are both Gambian nationals have been detained by Brusubi field drug law enforcement office at for allegedly being in possession of suspected prohibited drugs.
Meanwhile, drug law enforcement agency said its officers also arrested: “Bubacarr Leigh 19 years old Gambian National on the 15 February 2022 around 16:40 hours GMT onwards at Brufut with twenty-eight (28) parcels and seventy-eight (78) wraps of suspected cannabis sativa.
“Gibril Bojang, a 28-year-old Gambian National and a resident of Tranquil was also arrested on the same day around 13:15 hours GMT onwards with some quantities of suspected cannabis resin (Hashish). He was clutched at Tranquil by DLEAG’s Brusubi field office.”
“On the 16 February 2022 around 21:25 hours GMT onwards a motorcyclist trafficking suspected cannabis sativa bumped into a white Mercedes Benz at Besse Village and fled from the scene of the accident. It was later discovered that he was transporting forty-seven (47) big bundles of suspected cannabis sativa.
“The said prohibited drugs together with the seized prohibited drugs are in custody as officer further probe into the matter. 49 years old Mamoud Jawla was nabbed by Basse DLEAG’s field office with some quantities of suspected cannabis sativa on the 15 February 2022 around 04:00am onwards at Sandy – Darsillameh.”
The agency called on the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious drug related activities, adding that: “the safety of our communities and the well-being of our children and families should be our collective responsibility. Law enforcement operatives cannot be everywhere at the same time.”
This comes as the drug law enforcement agency launched a clampdown on illicit drugs and its users in the country. The officers have arrested and detained dozens of people in connection with illegal drugs across the country.
