President Adama Barrow will tomorrow preside over the inauguration of first-ever electrical project in Nyamanarr while on Saturday he will inaugurate the newly constructed Basse market.
The market is expected to bring joy of relieve to the face of some thousands of people in the region who had been affected by the fire disaster.
In 2020, the Basse market was burnt down by a fire that destroyed goods and materials worth millions of dalasis. However, President Adama Barrow presented cash donations to Governor Fanta Bojang Manneh in the amount of D2 million ($40,000).
“The presidential largesse is for the distraught fire victims most of whom were rendered poor by the inferno that lasted several hours despite the combined efforts of various fire fighters within the Central and Upper River Regions. In a sombre statement, President Barrow appealed to Gambians, members of the business community and humanitarian organisations to generously come to the rescue of the fire victims most of whom have been ripped off of their lifetime earnings within hours,” the presidency said.
Meanwhile, State House said: “Following the completion of the construction of the Basse Market in the Upper River Region, which was engulfed by Fire in 2020, President Adama Barrow will inaugurate the new complex on Saturday, 26th February 2022. Meanwhile, on Friday, February 25, 2022, the President will preside over the inauguration of first-ever electrical project in Nyamanarr, bringing electricity to the community after decades of darkness.”
