Three Journalism Students robbed

Three Journalism students of Media Academy for Journalism and Communication have been robbed on their way from schools in Kanifing last week. The robbery happened around Greater Banjul Area at the spot commonly known as BS school 7pm

Speaking to Mustapha Jarju, a victim who is and reporter at The Voice newspaper said: “we usually took vehicle at the main gate of the Independent Stadium in Bakau but found it difficult to have vehicle that evening so we decided to walk along the road to Westfield.

“But when we got to the BS school that was where the boys attacked us. The robbers took away our mobile phones, wallets and hand bags. The boys come from our back (behind) and one of them pretended as he knows me by saying ‘hey boy’, and he forcefully try to pick my phone from my pocket and I insisted and then I held out my phone in my left hand tightly that was when one of the boys strangled my neck and another boy holding a knife in his hand then I surrendered my phone to them,” he explained.

“Awa M Ceesay, who was with me, was punched on the forehead until she fell down before the attackers were able to take off her wallet as she screamed for help. Some people rushed to help us, but the robbers successfully escaped with our belongings and wallets which contained some vitals items and a handsome amount of money,” he stated.

According to him, they informed the managing director of Media Academy for Journalism and Communication, adding police have been informed.

“Our statements were taken by the Criminal Investigative Division of the Kanifing Police Station for further investigation into the matter,” he said.
