Top brass of the Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA) and senior officials of Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs (MOFEA) over the weekend returned from their Dakar trip.
The five days working trip to Dakar allowed them meeting with Senegalese customs counterpart and also putting in place mechanism for a common goal, mutual benefit that will eliminate double Taxation between the two countries.
The Gambian delegation was led by the Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs, Honorable Mambury Njie and accompanied by Minister of Justice, Commissioner General of Gambia Revenue Authority, Deputy Commissioner General and Head of Domestic Taxes, Director Technical Service, Director Legal Affairs at GRA, among others.
Representative from the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs (MOFEA) included the Permanent Secretary among others.
According to GRA Officials the mission in Senegal which was between 7th and 11th March, was meant to negotiate an agreement on the Elimination of double Taxation between the two countries.
The first round of negotiations ended successfully in Dakar as both countries agreed on all the articles of the agreement. The second round of negotiations will be held in Banjul future soon to further and agree on the text in both English and French languages wherein Ministers of Finance for both countries will sign.
According to Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA) officials once the Agreement is sign “it will be submitted for ratification by the Parliament of each country before it comes into force.
The five-day meeting was held at the Pullman Hotel, Dakar and was well attended by senior customs officers from both The Gambia and Senegal.
