Latrikunda Sabiji Upper Basic School and Bakoteh Upper and Senior Secondary School were both crowned champions of the Inter-Schools National Athletics Championship during the finals held at the Independence Stadium in Bakau on Sunday.
The Inter-Schools championship which was organized by the Gambia Secondary Schools Sports Association (GSSSA) was graced by hundreds of current and past students amongst other dignitaries.
Latrikunda Sabiji Upper Basic School alias “Plasas” has successfully defended their crown in the Upper Basic category, winning it fifth time in a row after collecting a whopping 398 points.
Barra-Essau Upper Basic School once again emerged second position after collecting 192 points, while St. Martins finished third place after also collecting 140 points respectively.
As winners, Latrikunda Upper Basic School were given a giant trophy and a cash prize of D50, 000; while the runners up, Barra-Essau were given a cash prize of D25, 000 and St. Martins as third place also pocketed D15, 000 respectively.
Elsewhere, Bakoteh Upper and Senior Secondary School won their first ever National Inter Schools Athletics Championship for Senior Secondary Schools after collecting 364 points.
Charles Jow Memorial Academy Senior Secondary School emerged second position after collecting 184 points, while St. Michael Senior Secondary School finished third position after grabbing 159 respectively.
As champions, Bakoteh Upper and Senior Secondary School for the first time awarded a giant trophy and cash prize of D100, 000.
As runners up, Charles Jow Memorial Academy went home with D50, 000 while St Michael received D25, 000 for finishing third place.
