African Students Leaders under the auspices of the League of African Development Students (LEADS) Africa has awarded Yankuba Darboe, Commissioner General of The Gambia Revenue Authority.
He was awarded alongside with the Commissioner of Customs Ismaila Jallow at a colourful ceremony held in GRA conference hall and attended by senior staff of GRA and media crews.
His award was as a result of his quality leadership and the unprecedented revenue performance over the years. And the Commissioner of Customs Ismaila Jallow was awarded for his length of service at the Gambia Revenue Authority.
Delivering his speech at the presentation ceremony, the president of the LEADS Africa –Mr. Morgan Ochekwu from Nigeria explained that they have keenly following numerous successes registered by the Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA) under the leadership of the Commissioner General, Mr. Yankuba Darboe. Due to this achievement, he said, LEAD Africa wish to appreciate the entire GRA for excellent performance, and position the CG as a positive example in Africa.
More so, LEADS Africa indicated the excellent Revenue performance of GRA particularly in 2021 when it exceeded Revenue Target by hitting D12.7Billion thereby availing the Government a wider fiscal space for various achievements.
Receiving the award with joy and appreciation, the Commissioner General Mr. Yankuba Darboe thanked Almighty Allah for making it happened and by extension commended the delegation and confirmed that with the award he was motivated to do more.
He acknowledged the hard work and commitment of the GRA team which he said responsible for the success him been honoured.
“I also want to thank the organization who has given me this award I’m really out of words simply because I never thought I deserve this kind of thing. But what is more important is do what you need to do and you leave the rest in the hands of Allah.” Some people somewhere are recognizing the work that you are doing one day you will be given the award so that is what has happened today,” he said joyfully.
“I was just doing what I need to do and nothing more than that I have been employed to do a work and I have been doing that work. It is not me alone doing it but I am a captain of the team and as a good captain I have to make sure that the team work hand in glove.
“I have a very good players and I make sure that I fix a good eleven and the eleven that I fixed have been scoring goals. I just have to be very careful of the eleven players and I give them more motivations so that they can keep scoring and this is all that we need. But in a nutshell I’m happy for this award which I will share with my staffs,” he added.
He as well commended everyone particularly the GRA Board of directors and management for the support and cooperation to raise the flag of GRA at both national and international levels.
