Eight in custody for possession of cannabis

Eight people have been detained by the drug law enforcement officers for alleged possession of cannabis.

The detainees included a 40-year-old man and seven other people in their 20s and 30s, drug law enforcement agency has said, adding that all the suspects were taken into custody as operatives’ further probe into their matters.

“40 years old Mahamadou Bah and 27 years old Ablie Sowe were each arrested with five (5) big bundles of suspected cannabis sativa on the 13 March 2022 with around 15:00 hours GMT onwards at Kalagi checkpoint. The duo was onboarding a commercial vehicle (BJL 6457 Q) heading to Jarra Soma from Brikama.

“27 years old Yaya Marong of Jamburr village was apprehended on the 11 March 2022 around 21:35 hours GMT Onwards with one (1) big bundle and some quantities of suspected cannabis sativa at Mandinaba checkpoint,” drug law enforcement agency added.

“Ebrima Faye and Modou Jatta were nabbed on the 11 March 2022 around 13:00 hours GMT onwards with three (3) bundles, fourteen (14) parcels and some quantities of suspected cannabis sativa at Old Yundum.

“Saikou Sanyang of Tujereng was clutched at Farato with thirty-seven (37) parcels of suspected cannabis sativa on the 11 March 2022 around 22:30 hours GMT onwards.  Sulayman Sanneh and Babucarr Njie of Brufut were apprehended on the 14 March 2022 around 10:30 AM onwards at Brufut with one (1) stone and thirteen (13) wraps of suspected cannabis resin (Hashish) and five tablets of shine a controlled drug,” the agency said.
