The Goodwill Ambassador of Sports, Tijan Jaiteh has been appointed as the authorized representative to introduce the Umbro sportswear brand in The Gambia.
In a statement to Ambassador Jaiteh from Umbro stated the company’s long term commitment to supporting sports in The Gambia.
“Long-term partnership is what we strive to accomplish with our partners. We will also use our global relations in order to create value and enduring benefit to all concerned,” said in a statement by the Umbro Office.
According to the Umbro chairman in South Africa, Brain Katzen stated that their focus would be on investing time and resources back into the community and working to establish an elite academy in combination with local trainers that could identify and shape tomorrow’s club
Chairman Katzen added that, development of talent is a project that takes time, but noting that they would look to assist in establishing, staffing and training the academy to ensure that the operations would be run and managed in accordance with top global academies.
“Our contribution will include providing trainers that would then train local trainers to improve their proficiency level who would then be able to further guide local sporting talents. Additionally, we would provide technology and equipment that would enable the further training, evaluation and identification of elite talent to the global sporting world.”
According to the Umbro South Africa Office, they are committed to assisting sports in The Gambia from a technical, administrative and digital stance as well as creating a comprehensive strategy for sports in The Gambia in general.
Meanwhile, reacting to this latest development, Ambassador Tijan Jaiteh expressed delight to be trusted by the respected global sportswear brand.
“We are delighted to be trusted with the privilege of introducing the Umbro sportswear brand in The Gambia,” a statement from Ambassador Jaiteh stated.
He added that having a country representative in Banjul means Umbro products can be easily accessible and cheaply by Gambians without any middlemen.
