Police have launched a nationwide community policing campaign aimed at enhancing democratic policing culture
“The Community Policing Unit of the Gambia Police Force is not relenting in its efforts in promoting and enhancing the culture of Community Based Policing for safer and more secured Gambia.
“However, this is effort is certainly complimented by German Foreign Cooperation-GIZ and efforts to bring about comprehensive and sustainable peace and security within the communities has been the preoccupation of the unit in the past few months,” police said.
“28 districts are currently benefitting from the rollout aimed at enhancing democratic policing culture. The training of community policing coordinators and engagement of key community leaders are all anchored on the fundamentals of community policing, human rights and gender related issues, application of democratic policing principles in police operations.
“The training will be conducted in two phases with phase one; NBR, CRR, URR, and LRR from 7th to 28th March 2022 phase 2 will target WCR, Kanifing and Banjul 1st to 13th June 2022.
The PIU has also benefitted from similar trainings facilitated by the Community Policing Unit,” police added.
