Baboucarr Jeng former presidential aspirant has lampooned the Mayor of Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC), Talib Ahmed Bensouda over the Bakoteh dumpsite debacle.
“I feel Talib (Ahmed Bensouda) has betrayed the people of the municipality by not telling them the truth because behind every honour is responsibility, people trust and vote him in office. And I believe if such issues come up, he should come out and tell us the truth. (But) not pointing fingers because I have circled two things in what he has said and one he pointed finger at the government and politics,” Mr Jeng criticised.
“And I think he cannot separate the issue from emotion and I feel he is biding (mixing) emotional with the issue. He has mentioned about the fire at the dumpsite and to me, it is true and what should ignite fire at the dumpsite is the methane and the methane that is trapped is not that powerful.
“So, what he said caused the fire at the dumpsite was not true because when you look at it right now the temperature of the weather is not even beyond 28’0 Celsius and when you come to the methane that’s trapped there needs at least 45-degree Fahrenheit. So, (Mayor) Talib should have at the back of his mind that he is not talking to people that are dumb and he should not be pointing fingers at others,” he added.
“What causes fire at the dumping site is one thing by the scavengers because there is business going on, on the ground of the site as some are going there for the picking of the waste irons and so on,” he argued.
More so, “there are some of them who live at the dumpsite and I have interacted with many of them who are not even Gambians. There is reality on the ground, there is business going on there those stationed at the dumping site in most cases survive from there may be their salaries are too small or low. So Talib is misinformed,” he lamented.
