Brikama Area Council (BAC) has presented a cheque for D1,950,000.00 dalasis to Brufut Central Market and Brikama Nema Kabilo, the presented cheque will be shared among the market and the community.
The support aimed at rebuilding of Brufut Central Market and Solar Street light for Brikama Nema Kabilo respectively.
Speaking at the presentation event held at the BAC ground, the CEO, Mr. Modou Jonga disclosed that at the level of the council, the Management are excited to present cheque in the sum of GMD 1,950,000.00 (one million nine hundred and fifty thousand dalasi) to Brufut Central Market and Brikama Nema Kabilo towards the implementation of two important demand driven projects at the two communities.
According to him, the two projects are the reconstruction of a state-of-the-art market for the community of Brufut and solar street light for Brikama Nema kabilo.
“Our counterpart contribution for the Brufut market amount to the sum of GMD 2 million which represent 27% of the project cost and today we will put the sum of (DM1.5).”
He said the standard market in Brufut which is one of the fast-growing communities in the region is indeed timely and important in different aspects.
He also cited that the GMD 450,000.00 cheque that was presented to Brikama Nema Kabilo is part of their final counterpart contribution to the street light component of the Nema Revitalisation project.
He went on that “Our first counterpart was in the second quarter of 202, with amount of the D450, 000.00, in total the BAC has contributed sum of D900,000.00 for the provision of 120 solar light out of the 200 solar street lights. Cost for the page is our expectation that our intervention will alleviate the standard of living in the community by increasing the level of public safety and security through the street light component of the project.”
He expressed delight to be associated with the implementing Agency and commended the Community Action Support Association (CASA-Gambia) for engaging and mobilizing stakeholders both in the county and outside for the reconstruction of the Brufut Central Market.
“We are truly grateful for the partnership and support from the beginning and look forward to the continuation of the collaboration for a replica of similar interventions in other growth centres in the region,” the CEO expressed appreciation.
He, therefore, commended the Brikama Nema Diaspora and the Nema Kabilo Development Association for the foresight in coming up with such a magnificent vision to transform Brikama Nema into a model neighbourhood with a superior urban design that will meet the needs of all residents by 2025.
Mr. Suleiman Kinteh, councillor for Brufut ward expressed delights and appreciation over the project that will go a long way in addressing the plight of the vendors in Brufut Central Market.
Councillor Kinteh went on history lane saying Brufut Central Market was built during the colonial period with intervention of CASA- Gambia the market will now turn into model market with carriage beside it, shops and chartering.
Casa – Gambia is an association that gives help to its people at Brufut among their gestures for the community included tiling of the classroom floors at Brufut Lower Basic School, construction of 10 classrooms with collaboration with MRC Holland just named but a few.
