People’s Democratic Organisation for Independence and Socialism (PDOIS), candidate who is seeking re-election for Banjul North, has vowed to address drainage problems of the constituency if re-elected into office in April.
“The issues are the condition of the road, drainage that surrounds the settlement of kampama estate commonly called Tobacco Road, the issue of youth unemployment, and the issue of women empowerment. These are the issues that are general but there are issues that are also peculiar, “Ousman Sillah told a political debate.
According to him, he has already started an initiative in addressing the canal that is behind the national assembly, adding that the settlement of Tabaco Road is an open drain where the rain water in Banjul normally deposits in from there it goes into the river.
“It is a challenge to the constituency the drain is clogged because there is no efficient and regular collection of waste so eventually the people resort to indiscriminate dumping where gutters are also dumping places. This resulted in clogging and that is the reason why during the rainy season last year the area had to be inundated because the water is stagnant. There is undergrowth that is grass growing and all sorts of wastes deposited there,” he added.
Meanwhile, he said in addition to that the sewage was also not working well because the pump that used to carry the water from the last station was broken down so they were emptying the sewage into that canal.
He noted that these are issues that are really affecting the people of Banjul and it is one of his plans that he would want to undertake to implement when he is re-elected to office in the April parliamentary elections.
