Pa Njie Girigara, ruling National People’s Party supporter, has hit back at Hamat Bah minister of Tourism and Culture for calling independent candidates’ nation destroyers.
Hamat Bah ripped into independent candidates during a political campaign in Kerr Ardo in Baddibu describing them as nation destroyers.
But Pa Njie Girigara told the nation’s tourism minister: “I promised not to talk about the parliamentary elections, but I will talk because there is talk in the campaign which shouldn’t be said. And I am directing this message to my brother Hamat Bah as brother because I tried to contact you on the phone but I couldn’t reach you.”
Business tycoon Pa Girigara Njie, a former sympathiser and financer of the Gambia Democratic Congress, shifted his political allegiance to President Barrow’s National People’s Party, NPP in 2020.
“Why I am talking about this campaign is your rhetoric against the independent candidates which was not nice and politics is not about attacks but it is about convincing people to come to you. And Hamat Bah, I want to remind you have your own political party called NRP therefore you are not NPP, and I want President Barrow to take note of this and you also take note of it.
“You shouldn’t be talking on behalf of NPP in a campaign for the national assembly because there are lots of political parties with NPP doing their campaign. In fact, you shouldn’t be in this NPP campaign because you are not NPP, you are NRP and I am NPP. So, Hamat Bah please try and change your rhetoric against independence and I am NPP and you are not NPP,” he added.
“We want you to know that we the people in NPP are the ones looking for candidates. If you had resolved your NRP thank God, but we want you to limit your say in NPP and campaign your campaign and know that this is not a campaign of coalition. So, campaign for your NRP and stop threatening the so-called independent candidates,” he continued.
