Gambia wins Africa’s Commonwealth Games qualifiers

The Gambia national male beach volleyball team has qualified for the Commonwealth Games beach volleyball tournament to be held in Birmingham, United Kingdom after defeating South Africa 2-0 to win gold medals in the Africa’s Commonwealth Games qualifiers played in Accra, Ghana on Monday afternoon.

Gambian players, Sainey Jawo and Mbye Babou Jarra who play their professional beach volleyball game in Qatar, will represent Africa at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham 2022.

The Gambian male team made it to the final after defeating the host country, Ghana 2-1 in the semifinals played on Monday morning.

The Gambia women’s team failed to pass through the semifinals of the Commonwealth Games beach volleyball qualifiers in Ghana.

The ladies lost 2-0 to Rwanda in the semifinals. The result meant that The Gambia female team is out of the race for Birmingham 2022.

Meanwhile, the male team is due back in the country today, Wednesday together with their female counterparts at 6pm.
