Lamin K B Bojang, Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC) National Assembly candidate for Brikama North Constituency, has described the government as ‘unreliable’ in terms of developing his constituency.
The “government is not reliable because they are not coming to our aid the condition of our hospital is super poor but what is the government doing about it?
“We are losing our women who go to the theatre for operations. We lost them because in the middle of an operation electricity will go off which is quite disheartening for a community like Brikama. As big as Brikama is, we have a hospital where women will die in the theatre during operation because of a simple thing like electricity,” he said.
“The living condition of the people of Brikama is so disheartening, poor road network, and the market is like a death trap for the market vendors,” he said, adding that they have a lot of reserve lands that were given by the elders of Brikama but nothing has been done.
According to him, he “will raise funds with the people of Brikama in the diaspora to get a proper standby generator for the hospital if i am elected on 9 April to the parliament house.”
“I will call on every native of Brikama to donate some amounts of money periodically we will be buying medicines with the money for the use of people in our hospital,” he promised.
Meanwhile, he said the community driving development projects are more sustainable than government projects, adding that the water that they are benefiting is their community project. They have functional street lights but because of the lackadaisical nature of people in authority like the Brikama Area Council they lost all their street lights.
So, “if I am elected, I will try to inject that life into the system and bring in community-driven development projects to make sure we move our constituency forward,” he emphasised.
