The Management of the Brikama Area Council (BAC) last Thursday, 7th April 2022, distributed 650 bags of 25kg rice to the affected communities in Foni. . The beneficiary’s communities include Bwiam, Sibanor and Bondali.
The distribution of this Food Aids Package which was purely supported by BAC was held at Bwiam.
Speaking at the distribution centre, the CEO of Brikama Area Council, Modou Jonga said the presentation was characterised with a heavy heart to hand over a total of 650 bags of rice 25kg to National Disaster Management Agency for onward delivery to the populations that are affected by the recent disturbance as a result of the Senegalese military operations in southern Senegal.
For his part the chairman of the Brikama Area Council BAC Hon. Sherifo Sonko described the presentation as a worthy course, considering the magnitude of the conflicts in Southern Casamance at this period of time of the Holy Month of Ramadan.
According to him, the council deem it fit to contribute its quota toward addressing the affected communities food Aids. “We cannot sit and watch family members suffering” but indeed we also need to put our hands as advice by the National Security and the president of the republic of the Gambia, where we got this news,” he disclosed
He emphasised that Gambia and Senegal share the same common goal, same family “even if we are not related, but this is something that we need to do and it is our obligation that the people within Casamance and even the internal displaced farms are our own people within our region.”
The Chairman urged Gambians to be very mindful of what they do and what they say, as peace is very important in the society “we cannot leave happily without peace prevailing on us, I think this is a clear manifestation and example for all Gambians to nurture the little peace that we are having today in this country.”
Adding that is one of the reasons “the office of the CEO and the office of the Chairman of Brikama Area Council in consultation with the councilors of Brikama Area Council and all other senior management find it necessary to contribute something to the National Disaster Management Agency for onwards distribution to the people of Casamance region and our own people from Foni.”
Also speaking at the presentation was the Executive Director of National Disaster Management Agency, Sanna Dahaba, he acknowledged receiving the donation on behalf of the Vice President of the Republic of The Gambia who is the chairperson of the National Disaster Ruling Council.
He described this gesture as a massive support which is not small measure, but more importantly is the intention that matters. He therefore used the opportunity to thank BAC for fulfilling one of the important aspects of the responsibility of the council.
