President Adama Barrow’s National People’s Party (NPP) won Saturday parliamentary election but fell short of absolute majority costing him a blow in the face.
The party won 18 seats and President Barrow will pick five MPs, including the Speaker, to complete 58-member for the House.
Mbemba K.O. Camara, social worker said the NPP fell short of an overall majority in the National Assembly as best decision from Gambians which is a big blow to President Barrow second term in office but good for Gambia’s current democracy.
“With all the resource used, and President going on tour in the name of meet the farmers also liaison in the names of ministers assigned with huge amount of money to motivate Gambians, still the NPP fell short of the majority needed to govern the parliament.
“If all has gone well on Saturday, the president that won 53 percent of December 4, 2021 presidential election with over majority should have won majority of the seat and this has been the tradition since independence,” Camara said in an interview.
