Emmanuel Joof chairperson of the National Human Rights (NHRC) has said that issues relating to business and human rights must be dealt with adding that in 2018 the Faraba bintang incident and our oceans which is over fished.
He made this remarks at the Press briefing held on the fourth National Humana Right Institutions forum on the margins of the 71st Ordinary Session of African Commission on Human Rights and People’s Rights held at Sir Dawda Kairaba Conference Centre.
According to him, “Issues relating to business and human right are dealt with. As we know we have fish meal factories our oceans which are over fished then in 2018, the Faraba bintang incident commission because of sand mining. These are issues that impacted on our daily lives and we also tend to ignore these issues.
He noted that the ultimate aim is for each of these countries to have an action national plan on business and human rights.
Mudford Zachariah Mwandenga, chairperson of Zambia Human and Peoples Rights Commission said we are here for the fourth national human right institution forum at the margins of 71st session forum of the African Commission on Human and People’s Right.
He noted that the session will begin on the 21st of April and end on 9 of May and it is a virtual session.
Gilbert Sebihogo, executive director of NANHRI said they have developed a guideline to help national institutions to work with the government in-terms of implementing of the decisions issues by the African Commissions as well as the courts.
The commission does this through the review of human right organizations and Africa charter, he added.
