The Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Banjul Wednesday donated materials including clothes, swords and others to The Gambia’s Kunfu Federation, the donation was held at the Chinese Embassy in Bijilo.
The presentation was graced by Honourable Bakary Badjie, Minister of Youths and Sports and senior official of the National Sports Council, Marcel Mendy. It was saw exceptional performance and display of the martial arts by Kunfu practitioners.
Speaking to reporters shortly after presentation of the items, Ambassador Ma Jianchun described the Chinese martial art as a form improving health of people.
“Just now you saw the performance it was very amazing to all of us. The Chinese martial art call Kunfu, was developed in China long time and widely practice worldwide. Practicing Wusu doesn’t only mean self-protection, but also it can help people to strengthen their physical health. So, it’s good. Therefore, practising Wusu enjoyed high popularity among old aged in China,” he disclosed.
Meanwhile, Minister Bakary Badjie, described the performance of the practitioners as impressive.
“It is a very good performance and display of Chinese martial art. It’s good that the young people of this nation are also exploring more into the other type of sports and not just to the very common ones that we have. Seen the embassy called the Federation and presented those materials to them, it is a great thing for the Ministry and the sports fraternity because is a way of empowering our Federation and our young people.
“For the Ministry, our strategy is to ensure that sports are all-inclusive and that we are doing all kinds of sports that are being practice in the world. So, for this one, it is one among those rare ones, not very common probably in this country,” he said.
