Kebba Lang Fofana, one of President Adama Barrow’s five nominated member of the National Assembly, Friday, rejected his nomination as a deputy speaker by United Democratic Party’s parliamentarians.
The nomination came when the Assembly members ballot among the five legislatives who were nominated by the president of the Republic of The Gambia Adama Barrow.
Madi K. Ceesay of Serekunda West choose and nominated Kebba Lang to serve as the deputy speaker following the nomination of Seedy Njie by Sheriff Sarr of Old Jeshwang and the member for Nianija Constituency.
UDP Alagie S Darboe of Brimaka pointed Kebba Lang Fofana to serve for the position of the deputy speaker of the National Assembly for the coming five years. “I withdraw my nomination,” Fofana quickly responded.
Mr Fofana withdrawal of the nomination gave an opportunity for the nominated member Hon Seedy S K Njie to serve as the Deputy speaker of the National Assembly of the Gambia for the coming five years.
Seedy Njie has once served at the role of Information Minister for 9 days during end tail of former president Jammeh’s tenure. Njie as the Minister within his 9 days duration as a state minister, boldly announced to the world that “Jammeh will not step down” even after losing elections, this came at a time which as severely triggered fear among Gambians during the 2016 presidential election causing more than fifty thousand Gambians fleeing the country to neighbouring country of Senegal and other countries, due to fear of aftermath of elections when Jammeh refused to step down.
During the 2016 political impasse ex Minister Seedy Njie fled with the former President Yahya Jammeh to Equatorial Guinea. Since then, Jammeh still remains in exile.
