Operatives of the Drug Law Enforcement Agency have detained 15 people suspected of being in possession of cannabis; they were arrested from diverse locations across the country.
“Operatives of the Drug Law Enforcement Agency, The Gambia (DLEAG) took into custody fifteen (15) persons apprehended at diverse locations across the country for possession of suspected prohibited drugs. Some of the suspects were nabbed in the Greater Banjul Area while others were clutched in the Upper River Region.
“41 years old, Yusupha Badjie, a Gambian National and a resident of Sukuta Nema was apprehended on the 15 April 2022, around 18:56 hours GMT onwards with twenty-two (22) big bundles of suspected cannabis sativa at Sukuta Nema. Cherno Sambou, an adult male Gambian was arrested at Sanyang village on the 15 April 2022, around 20:10 hours GMT onwards with one (1) bundle and six (6) parcels of suspected cannabis sativa. 22 years old Falou Jobe, a shopkeeper in Lamin, West Coast Region was nabbed on the 16 April 2022 around 21:00 hours GMT onwards with some quantities of suspected cannabis sativa wrapped in a cement paper, placed in a nylon bag and concealed in a brown bag,” the agency said.
“18 years old Modou Lamin Kinteh and 22 years old Sanna Colley of Brufut Wulinkama were apprehended on the 15 April 2022 around 21:00 hours GMT onwards with twenty-one (21) parcels of suspected cannabis sativa at Wulinkama. 22 years old Lamin Jatta of Gunjur was arrested on the 18 April 2022, around 21:25 hours GMT onwards with nine (9) parcels and Seven (7) wraps of suspected cannabis sativa together with one (1) stone of cannabis resin (hashish) at Gunjur, West Coast Region.
“21 years old Momodou Salieu Kanteh was arrested on the 18 April 2022 around 15:20 hours GMT onwards with twenty-eight (28) wraps of suspected cannabis sativa at Basse, Upper River Region. 25 years old Kingsley Eke, 21 years old Collins Udechukwu, 23 years old Tony Dioha, 28 years old Chibuze Nwezee, 26 years old Livinus Nnod, 25 years old Nzubechi Obediah, 23 years old Felis Abuchi and 25 years old Raphael Moral, all Nigerian Nationals were taken into custody in Basse, Upper River Region on charges of joint possession of a prohibited drug contrary to section 35(2) of the DCA 2003.
“The suspects were said to be engaged in Easter celebration while also engaged in the abuse of a prohibited drug. All fifteen suspects were booked for possession of prohibited in contravention to section 35 of the DCA 2003 while the officer further probe into their matters,” the agency added.
